LA JUNTA CLOTHING: Campers may purchase as many or as few shirts and shorts as
they wish. We request campers have 1 camp t-shirt for camp photos and closing.
Most boys also purchase a couple of ranch or specialty t-shirts and 1 or 2 pairs
of shorts.
Note: New and expensive clothing is not recommended.
Each item must be marked clearly with indelible ink for identification.
Make sure to pack an extra pair of GLASSES or contact lenses for emergency use, and deliver them to the nurses at the Infirmary. Have a replacement prescription available in the event of breakage or loss of both pairs.
NO MONEY, KNIVES or other DANGEROUS ITEMS are allowed in the possession of any La Junta camper except where requested for the older boys in the A.C. program. These are best left at home.
We cannot be responsible for nice watches, cameras or other valuables. They, too, are best left at home. Disposable cameras are fine -- send self-addressed and stamped, padded envelope to mail them home for development.
STEREO RECEIVERS or large JAM BOXES are also NOT ALLOWED at camp. Only small battery powered radios or cassette players are acceptable, but again, NOTHING VALUABLE, PLEASE! SPECIAL MUSIC NOTE: As walkmans and portable CD players become more popular with campers, so too does the growing influx of undesirable music. We prohibit music labeled "Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics". Please check the music your son plans to bring, and do not allow him to bring these.
Campers may bring their own tennis rackets (rackets and cover must be clearly labeled -- so many look alike) and inexpensive golf, fishing and/or archery equipment, but this is not mandatory as the camp furnishes all such activity equipment in addition to rifles, skis, and SCUBA gear. Again, expensive items are NOT recommended .
BOOTS: Campers will be doing a lot of unaccustomed walking which might cause blistered heels, so it is important that new shoes or boots be bought early to get them broken-in well before arrival to camp.
ADVANCED CAMPERS: Please follow the same instructions as regular campers for check-in and bring the following special items in addition to those listed above: 1. Heavy-duty pocket knife, 2. Hiking boots or suitable shoes, 3. One pair of heavy leather gloves for rapelling, 4. Pocket notebook and pencil/pen NOTE: Try to avoid new equipment if you have access to used items. "Broken in" gloves and boots are the best and most comfortable.
LABEL EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING: Everything brought from home, bought on Opening Day or sent to campers at a later date, should be clearly and permanently marked with the camper's FULL NAME (many boys have common initials). Use permanent marking pens, sew-on labels, stamp-pads, etc. We will mark all items bought at the camp store throughout the term. HINT: order a name stamp from CARING PRODUCTS, 800/AT-A-CAMP.
LUGGAGE: Campers are allowed two pieces of luggage. Most bring a trunk/foot locker and a large duffle containing bedding, towels and sleeping bag. There is no size restriction for trunks.
FOOTLOCKERS: Texas Case Company produces a custom, extremely durable (good for multiple summers) Camp La Junta trunk with our logo on top, available in any color they sell. For more information, call Texas Case (800) 599-5384 or utilize the insert with this mailing.
