Background

Camp La Junta is the best place in Texas to find a job this summer.

The camp is located on two hundred beautiful acres of the rolling Texas Hill Country, with limestone hills, thick cedar and oak trees, spacious, green, athletic fields, and the cool, clear Guadalupe River making the area a natural playground for campers since 1928. Our white cabins which dot the landscape house eight to twelve kids at a time. Two or three counselors live with the campers for the duration of their stay, which either runs two or four weeks in June or July. There are two four-week sessions per summer.

Emphasis of CLJ’s camp program is placed on cultivating strong self-confidence and success within its campers. Counselors are, for the most part, expected to both teach an activity during the day and live with and care for the needs of a cabin group of boys between the ages of seven and fourteen. Up to six female counselors are hired each summer to help out with the youngest campers and also teach an activity.

On average, there are about fifteen to twenty new staff positions each summer. New and old staff attend training several days before the arrival of our campers, adding to their confidence and professionalism to handle a summer full of adventure, friendship, and leadership. A good counselor is a hard-working, enthusiastic, moral, and energetic human being who loves kids, the outdoors, and instilling a deep sense of accomplishment among peers and campers alike. To have a good summer at La Junta is to make not only friends, but family—and counselors can also improve their résumé and their leadership potential while having a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
